Folks,
Tom, Jon and myself have arrived here in Park City with perfect timing. Last year it seemed as though the snow gods were against us, as no snow fell the entire 10 days we stayed in PC. This year is a completely different story, and certainly serves as our redemption year. Not only are we receiving snow, but epic amounts of it. It seems as though the "greatest snow on earth" will continue to fall almost everyday this week in mass amounts. A giant storm slammed the Wasatch mountain range both yesterday and today. When all is said and done, we should have close to 24 inches of snow to ski tomorrow morning. If this wasn't enough, the storms will continue to roll in after a brief break. Tuesday into wednesday we are destined to receive 14-22 inches of snow and then further storms later in the week.
Yesterday's adventure at The Canyons gave us a little primer to what we skied today at Deer Valley. Can you say powder turn after powder turn? All three skied well through the treacherous conditions we encountered. 50 mph winds, whiteouts, and of course the cold drove the masses away from the mountain but not the stubborn powder junkies. This was perfect as it left much of the mountain open and run after run of powder :-)
Tomorrow we are planning to do Deer Valley, which should have close to 2 ft of snow to ski. We are praying that empire canyon will be opened as it was closed all day due to avalanche control and high winds. On an added note it seems as though my uncle Colin will be observing the powder rule and joining us for some good times tomorrow morning :-)
Signing off for now!
